Lenten Three-Day Centering Prayer Retreat - "The Forgiveness Prayer"
The Forgiveness Prayer and Centering Prayer led by Tom Ward.
Forgiveness is central to Jesus' message calling us to forgive "from the heart", yet in today's world how does one forgive? Is forgiving forgetting? Is forgiving condoning? Does forgiveness mean reconciliation?
This retreat will explore these questions and share both the Process of Forgiveness as well as specific practices to Forgive (including the Forgiveness Prayer as articulated by Mary Mrozowski). To be a Christian mandates a willingness to forgive, but as the adage goes, 'to err is human, to forgive is Divine.'
Centering Prayer is the opening of the mind and heart – our whole being – to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words and emotions. The 3-Day retreat is an opportunity to develop and sustain a regular practice of this way of praying. There will be instruction in Centering Prayer along with periods of Centering Prayer. This might serve as a good introduction to Centering Prayer or as deeper retreat experience. No previous experience of Centering Prayer is required.
The Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel, teaching Centering Prayer and leading retreats.
