Lectio Divina Retreat
October 19-21, Sunday 6 pm until Tuesday 1 pm Lectio Divina is the prayerful reading of the Bible, the book Christians believe to be divinely inspired. This method of prayer deepens our relationship with God in a natural, organic way. As we encounter God in the Word, our minds and hearts are slowly transformed. Participants will learn how to pray the Scriptures using the method of Lectio Divina and have the opportunity to practice this method of prayer both privately and with a group.
WORKSHOP TOPCIS
Introduction: Lectio Divina as a way of praying with scripture will be introduced. Consideration will be given to the historical development of Lectio Divina as a method of prayer in both the monastic and scholastic form.Lectio: Learning to read the Word of God with a listening heart is the first challenge of Lectio Divina as a method of prayer. Opportunity will be given to practice being awakened by sacred scripture.
Meditatio: Reflecting on the Word of God is a process of letting the Word speak to us. It is entering into a dialogue with God that slowly transforms us. Time for reflection will be provided.
Oratio: As we respond to God’s Word we are drawn into relationship. We begin to converse with God who has invited and embraced us. As we take time to respond we may discover aspects of our relationship with God that we scarcely knew existed.
Contemplatio: After dialoguing with God we are often led to simply rest in God’s presence. As we rest our intention is to surrender to God’s transforming presence in our lives. We will enter into a period of resting in God as we let the Word we have heard transform us.
Becoming a word of God: As we enter into an intentional relationship with God through Lectio Divina we will slowly become the “Word of God” we are meant to be. God will dismantle our falsity and our true self will emerge.
