Conceptual Drawing of a New St. Mary's Sewanee Campus

The strategic plan for St. Mary’s Sewanee identifies these priorities for the future: building a new facility, expanding regional and national support, developing programs and deepening relationships with our neighbors on the mountain.

Our Facility

We will launch a capital campaign to build a new facility that meets the needs of our guests and the dimensions of our mission, taking full advantage of the natural beauty of our setting. Comfortable, attractive new meeting and living spaces will be designed to host groups seeking silence and those engaged in more interactive programs at the same time.

Our Programs

We will continue to offer varied programs and retreats for spiritual growth as we move to a year-round calendar and expand opportunities in areas such as Sabbath experiences for clergy, inter-religious dialogue and connecting with the sacred in creation. Our longstanding affiliation with Contemplative Outreach (Thomas Keating’s Centering Prayer Organization) and our new collaboration with the Henri Nouwen Society will add depth to our program offerings and help us bring speakers of national reputation to the mountain.

Our Community

We will expand our support throughout the central Southeast, taking advantage of our proximity to Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Huntsville, Jackson, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville. With the development of volunteer opportunities and weekday offerings, we will extend our outreach to those living in Sewanee and surrounding communities.
