Laura L. Willis

Director of Advancement and Marketing

Laura joined St. Mary’s Sewanee in May 2018 as the Director of Advancement and Marketing. A longtime Sewanee resident, Laura has held leadership roles at the Sewanee Mountain Messenger, South Cumberland Community Fund, the University of the South, and the Community Action Committee, about which she wrote the spiritual memoir, “Finding God in a Bag of Groceries” (Abingdon, 2013).

Her first experience at St. Mary’s Sewanee was attending a one-day Centering Prayer workshop in the mid-1990s; since then she has attended numerous Centering Prayer intensive and post-intensive retreats and has an active CP practice. She is an Episcopalian, active at Otey Memorial Parish in Sewanee.

Working at St. Mary’s Sewanee is an ideal blend of Laura’s professional skills in communications, fundraising, and marketing, with her passion for exploring the interconnectedness between contemplation and community.

Married with two adult children, she enjoys daily walks with Freckles, the family dog and hiking on the Sewanee Domain.
