Saturday, April 10th, 10:00am-12:00pm (Central Time) Lecture, Discussion and Experiential Practices
Offered online via Zoom
Our capacity for sensory exploration goes far beyond the classic five senses. This workshop will introduce you to your nervous system’s vast capacity for physical and physiological awareness. You will learn about the subtle senses of proprioception, interoception and differentiation, processes that often operate below our level of consciousness. Through gentle yoga, breathwork and mindfulness meditation with visualization you will cultivate greater and more distinct awareness of the wonder of our physical being and its intricate connection to our energetic, mental and spiritual dimensions.
Your instructor, Becca Impello, has been a physical therapist and yoga instructor for over 20 years. Becca will lead you in gentle yoga practices designed to observe and connect to the body through movement, detecting change and deep sensation in the joints, muscles and fascia. Breathwork, the gradual manipulation of pattern, depth and speed, will create energy shifts and reveal a range of nervous system responses. She will also guide you through mindful meditations and visualizations that help you tap into the inner working of the body’s physiology enabling a greater sense of your state of health and wellbeing. All these practices can be explored with individual variations and are accessible to anyone who can get up and down from the floor using a chair as needed.
Becca Impello, MS PT, C-IAYT, discovered a fascination with the human body’s physical structure and ability just after college when she became a fitness instructor. This fascination led her further to the study of Physical Therapy, which she has been practicing in Birmingham since 1999. Becca simultaneously discovered yoga which fulfilled her desire to tune in to her own body and mind and revealed to her a wealth of therapeutic benefits. Her Physical Therapy practice has evolved to using more breath and body awareness, and therapeutic modifications of yoga poses. Becca is a certified yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance, a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and has done specific training in anatomy, mindfulness, pre-natal yoga, therapeutic yoga and studied the teachings of Gary Kraftsow, T. K. V. Desikachar, Doug Keller, Suzi Hatley, and Timothy McCall, among others. Becca currently works with clients one on one for individualized yoga instruction to address acute or chronic issues, learn modifications for safe entry into community classes, or develop a personal practice. She also teaches yoga classes, therapeutic focus yoga workshops, yoga teacher trainings and mindfulness retreats.
