Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer

Lectio Divina literally means “divine reading”.  It is an ancient practice of praying the Scriptures.  During the prayer period, the pray-er listens to a brief passage with “the ear of the heart” in conversation with God. In this online event participants will learn how to practice Lectio Divina, as well as hearing something of its history in the Christian tradition.  They will also be given an opportunity to experience the process.  As with Centering Prayer, Lectio Divina leads to contemplative prayer.  Unlike Centering Prayer, thoughts, images, and insights are fostered as steps to intimacy with God.   Both are part of the transformation process, restoring the one praying to union with God.

This workshop is led by Tom Ward and Rebecca Paluzzi.

The Rev. Tom Ward is the retired university chaplain at the University of the South and now spends his days focusing on the contemplative dimension of the gospel, teaching Centering Prayer, and leading retreats.
