At sunset on October 27, we celebrated Bob Ayres’ life and faith along with his immense contributions to St. Mary’s Sewanee through the decades. Watching the fiery orb sinking into the horizon was Bob’s favorite time on New Hope Bluff. And it has become mine, as well. Witnessing the daily rhythm and beauty of the setting sun draws us into the mystery of God’s love that is ever present even as the light fades and darkness falls. We are reminded as the moon reflects the sun’s continuing light and we are able to see an ocean of stars in the heavens, the light of God never fails.
