Upcoming Retreats at St. Mary’s Sewanee

St. Mary’s Sewanee: The Ayres Center for Spiritual Development is pleased to announce three new retreats this spring: Lectio Divina: A Three-Day Lenten Retreat, Dream Care Introductory Workshop, and Aging with Courage and Grace.

Lectio Divina, which means “divine reading,” is a contemplative way to approach Scripture. Led by Tom Ward, this three-day retreat March 22-24 will focus on the building blocks of a developing and sustaining a contemplative life in the modern world. Lectio Divina includes time for reading, reflecting, responding, and resting in the word of God with the aim of nourishing and deepening one’s relationship with the divine. Periods of silent Centering Prayer will be a part of the retreat although no Centering Prayer experience is required to attend.

Dream Care is a spiritual practice that can be readily developed and used to discern God’s will. Dream work raises consciousness, builds community and intimacy, and can impact society. Led by Marsha Carnahan, this one-day workshop on March 25 will take a Jungian approach with time for experiential and creative learning.

Aging with Courage and Grace: A Journey toward Wholeness is a three-day retreat, April 5-7, that will offer safe space for participants to consider the paradoxes of loss, transition, and renewal that happen in the second half of life. Participants will explore how they have an increased capacity to love, serve, forgive, and seek peace. The workshop invites guests to become “true elders” with meaningful contributions to make, and ultimately asks them to embrace the deep mystery we will enter in our own deaths. This retreat, held in conjunction with the Center for Courage and Renewal, will be led by Marjorie Thompson and Marta Murrell.
