Advent 2025: Sustaining Faith in a Vulnerable World
A weekly journey of reflection and practice from St. Mary’s Sewanee
Weekly Advent Reflections
A Reflection from Kara
In 2024, my personal life and the larger world felt chaotic and uncertain. I found myself asking: How do I sustain faith in such a vulnerable world? Which spiritual practices help me keep faith in God, in myself, and in the human community?
When I interviewed at St. Mary's Sewanee at the end of that year, I realized that the work I'd been doing on a personal level is the work this place has always done on a communal level—offering, expanding, and investing in spiritual practices that help us all sustain faith.
During Advent, our readings and prayers focus on sustaining Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Join me over the next four weeks as we reflect and practice together, journeying toward Christmas.
Advent Overview
Each Sunday of Advent, we will release a new short video, written reflection, and simple embodied practice on this page. Together, these resources create a gentle rhythm that encourages you to slow down, return to the present moment, and notice the Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love sustaining you.
This page will serve as the home for the series as it unfolds. New materials will appear each week, inviting you to watch, read, reflect, and practice at your own pace. Whether you’re engaging from home, on retreat, or with a faith community, may these offerings help you navigate the vulnerability of the world with courage, tenderness, and a renewed sense of belovedness.
Check back each Sunday as we continue the journey toward Christmas.
