Beyond the Five Senses: A Mindful Exploration of Physical Awareness

Weekend Retreat

Our capacity for sensory exploration goes far beyond the classic five senses. This weekend retreat will explore a deep connection to your physical body through enhanced awareness that turns your sensing capacity inwards. Learn about your nervous system’s vast capacity for physical and physiological awareness through the subtle senses of proprioception, interoception and differentiation, processes that often operate below our level of consciousness. Through gentle yoga, breathwork and mindfulness meditation with visualization you will cultivate greater and more distinct awareness of the wonder of our physical being and its intricate connection to our energetic, mental and spiritual beings.

Your instructors, Becca Impello and Kim Drye of HereNowYoga, have been leading retreats and yoga trainings together since 2016. Becca has been a physical therapist and yoga instructor for over 20 years in her hometown of Birmingham, AL and Kim is an experienced yoga teacher with a studio in West Asheville, NC. They will lead and assist you in yoga practices designed to observe and connect to the body through movement, detecting change and deep sensation in the joints, muscles and fascia. Breathwork, the gradual manipulation of pattern, depth and speed, will create energy shifts and reveal a range of nervous system responses. Becca and Kim will also guide you through mindful meditations and visualizations that help you tap into the inner workings of the body’s physiology enabling a greater sense of health and wellbeing. All these practices can be explored with individual variations and are accessible to anyone who can get up and down from the floor using a chair as needed.
