What This Retreat Offers
On the first Saturday in May, thousands of people around the world pause to walk a labyrinth together — and we invite you to join them from our mountain. World Labyrinth Day is an annual global celebration centered on a simple, beautiful intention: that participants worldwide "Walk as One at 1," creating a wave of peaceful energy around the planet. At St. Mary's Sewanee, you are invited into an introduction to labyrinth walking and a guided experience on our grounds — an ancient moving meditation that invites you, in the words of Guerilla Labyrinths, toward "the journey to the center of your deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are."
Retreat Leadership
Kara Lassen Oliver, Executive Director of St. Mary's Sewanee, will lead participants through an introduction to the labyrinth's history, symbolism, and practice before guiding the group in a walking meditation on our grounds. Kara brings warmth, spiritual depth, and a deep love for this sacred practice to every labyrinth experience she leads.
